Why GLP Compliant
Any submission for product approval by a regulatory agency (e.g., FDA, EPA
or even the OECD) is required to have studies that are GLP compliant.
In order to ensure quality and safety, and to provide consumer protection, the agency
issued the GLP regulations. These regulations specify minimum standards for the proper
conduct of safety testing at laboratories. The standards include discussions on critical
laboratory factors like facilities, personnel, equipment, standard operating procedures
(SOPs), test and control articles, quality assurance, protocol and conduct of a safety
study, records and reports, and laboratory disqualification.

Choosing a GLP Consultant
GLP compliance is not all black and white; there are a lot of gray areas to
maneuver around. Agencies may refuse a submission based on lack of GLP
compliance. Therefore, you need a highly qualified GLP consultant who can offer
advise with GLP matters.
One of the best ways to make sure your lab is in compliance, is to choose a
GLP consultant who not only has years of experience, but is current with all
the new rules and regulations. An extra bonus would be someone who knows the
science, especially toxicology.
Qualification to look for include:
- RQAP-GLP
- Someone who was a Study Director for GLP studies
- Knowledge of in vitro and in vivo non-clinical studies
- Board certified toxicologist
- Recognized by their peers in scientific and quality assurance societies
If you're looking for a GLP consultant with these attributes, check out Robin Guy. She is highly respected among her peers, was President of a leading toxicology organization, and has over 30 years experience in this field.
